  • It has normal maps? If not, just imagine the beauty when including normal maps for both environment textures and models.
  • ok, back on topic of textures now
  • Ok then; is there a new texture pack with more textures planned soon? There are still some unfinished ones. Maybe soon, it will become the DHNMTP (Doom high resolution normal map texture project).
  • Here's new metal texture:

and very rough version of midgrate:

    Comparison with original:

  • Maybe a side by side comparison of the original texture, the current hi-res texture, and this new texture would be good, if that is ok. :)
  • i would suggest using another upload site then imgur reinchard...
since a while ago imgur started to compress any uploaded image an awefull lot which results in seriously bad compression-artifacts and loss of quality of images.
just look at the upload of your metal texture, how much compression artifacts it has :/

id recommend to try http://www.imgbox.de instead, which does NOT compress uploaded images ;)
  • Another, but not final version of MIDGRATE:

    Here's next to original:

    Tell me what you think.

(imgur make my textures little blurry)

Thanks Splitterface, but whole site is in deutch.
  • you could always try imgbox.com instead?
havent tried that site though, so no clue if it compresses images or not

but the logo looks like the site would be made by the same people

Oddly, when I click the picture link, I'm only seeing the enlarged new texture but not an enlarged original version next to it.
  • It looks to me like it might not tile well.
  • Because is not tiled yet. Little update:

I don't make comparison this time, I'm still work on it.
  • In that case, all I can say is that it looks fantastic.
  • I have little problem with midgrate and his transparent color.
    This is my texture:
    http://i.xomf.com/gcmwb.png

And this is how it's look in game:
    http://i.xomf.com/spchw.png

You see this red-like border? I don't see it in Photoshop. I try reduce all red tons to gray but this border still appears in game.
  • Most likely you have color information behind the masked areas in the texture that doesn't match those in the non-masked area. GL texture filtering will smooth colors from the masked area of the texture into the non-masked area. The solution is to ensure that your color information is correct behind the masked areas also (a "gutter" of at least 2 pixels should fix it).
  • That is how your image look with unpremultiplied transparency (click to enlarge)
    shot_06092013_153133_tn.png
There are pure red color under transparent pixels.

Dday also offers a little feature; adding '-ck' to the end of the name of an external graphic replacement, will make Dday automatically turn any cyan (i.e that 'doom cyan' colour) coloured part of the graphic transparent for you. i.e 'MIDGRATE-CK.PNG'.

It works with at least sprite and material replacements.
  • Thanks guys, I fix it!
  • Here is finished MIDGRATE:

And here is first, rough version of BIGDOOR6:

As uoy can see the biggest problem is the lion. I try make them as close to the original as possible, but in low resolution difference between my version and original is very evident.
  • I love your rusty metal texture.

(Ermagerd, I sound like Salad Fingers!)
  • they both look great, much more fancy and detailed then the old hi-res ones :D

great job, keep em coming ;)
  • Thanks. I'm work today on lion model. Tell me what you think about them in SW1LION texture:

This is, of course, only a test.

  • Looks like you're off to a great start. The most obvious difference is with the lighting -- try adding a secondary light source that casts light upward from the bottom of the texture.
  • I don't mind it looking a little different than the original if it looks this good. These are good. Those almost seem like normal maps. I wonder when people can start implementing normal maps into textures. Depending on how soon it will be before a build comes out that supports normal maps on wall and floors textures and how long it takes before these new textures are released, the people making these can start putting normal maps on them. ;)
  • looking at the original texture, i'm thikning the lion might be half lion half man?
sorta like this, but not man/dog
    http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2 ... Joshua.jpg
  • the lion face looks great imo :)

and i also dun mind at all if textures dun look the exact same as originals if it looks good

face looks very good as it is right now. and i dun think the original is a mix, it prolly just looks like that cuz of being low-res

I have the same feeling when I look at this texture. So in my version I have not modeled on a real lion, only on this face from original SW1LION. Still work on it.

    Edit:
    Maybe Narasimha? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narasimha
  • maybe one day when the new renderer comes along, the texture could be converted to a polygon version where it looks as real as this texture but the face sticks out in 3D. It does look odd when some of these textures and buttons are completely flat and 2D and have a shadow texture onto it, yet look realistic in every other way. Maybe the lighting could also determine how the shadow or shadows near the button appear instead of it being baked on once some of these textures and buttons become 3D models with textures one day. Maybe one day an addon would be made called 'map model pack' as an alternative to the hi res texture pack, just as 3d monster and thing models are now an alternative to a sprite pack.
  • I do some tests of my lion model:
    vfpdk.png
    rpsmr.png
    zmxdz.png
  • i personally liked the previous texturing on the lion that you had before better.
sure, it looks more like the original now, but i personally think how you had it looked nicer ;)

i personally prefer the metal-ish look on the head over the stone look

could you perhaps make a version of sw2lion with that metal-ish look? :D
