  • Hello sune....

Thanks for catching that. I could have messed that up with all my tinkering. I've done little else for 4 weeks now to try and get things working.

Before I read your post I did manage to fix TNT & Plutonia, but I can't get Scythe or Scythe 2 to run.

Perhaps you'd be willing to look at the latest doomsday.out?

I also have the command lines for Scythe and Scythe2 as well. I don't know if they are worth including, but maybe someone will notice something I do not. I attached the image of the Scythe command line. I don't see how to attach the other one. This are images because you can't copy the text from the command line dialog box.

Ok, I see the format for attaching a file, so I'm gonna try this with the other image (Scythe2) and see if it works:

If I can get the two scythe files to run I'd probably be ok.

    Thanks for the help.
  • One uses -iwad for loading the games main wad file; Doom2.wad, Plutonia.wad etc.

One uses -file to load a pwad such as Scythe, which is ran over the top of the main wad file.
  • I've tried pwad. Not working for me.

Any other help for this please?
  • First you've got to check which original game the pwad is made for. In the case of SCYTHE it is made to run on top of plain Doom2.

As Vermil said use '-file' option to load the PWAD (in this case SCYTHE.WAD) and use '-iwad' option to load the coresponding iwad (in this case DOOM2.WAD). Make sure the paths to the pwad and iwad are correct. Also use the '-game' option to start in doom2 game mode.

So your command line should be something like
    doomsday -file "C:\Users\Tom\Documents\Doomsday Frontend\addons\SCYTHE.WAD" -iwad "C:\Doom 1, 2, TNT, Final & Ultimate\doom2.wad" -game doom2

(By the way, where is your SCYTHE.WAD located? You're referencing it both as "C:\Users\Tom\Documents\Doomsday Frontend\addons\SCYTHE.WAD" and "C:\Doom 1, 2, TNT, Final & Ultimate\Scythe\SCYTHE.WAD")

The above works for me. I just played through the first couple of levels in Scythe and they're quite fun :)
  • Command line? Are you talking about the console that comes up? I don't know how to describe it. All of the games I play (TNT, Plutonia, DOOM & DOOM II) are all started through the Doomsday Engine Front End.

There seems to be no combination of ordering or even common sense that I've tried that will get Scythe & Scythe II to run. It appears they are loading but this console comes up, none of which makes any sense. I don't know why it comes up, but it never comes up with any of the other games.
  • the command like is what cmd in windows is but also the command like is the main part of the shortcut aka the target.
  • There are two ways to launch doomsday:
    - Through the Front End (aka Snowberry)
    - From the command line (in windows called 'Command Prompt') by starting the doomsday executable (doomsday.exe) with the right parameters. These parameters specify the same stuff you can select in snowberry (gamemode, addons etc.)

So by the 'command line' I meen starting 'Command Prompt' in Windows, then navigate to the dir of doomsday.exe with the command
    cd /d "c:\Program Files (x86)\Doomsday\bin"

and finally execute the affore mentioned command to launch doomsday with the right options/parameteres to load scythe:
    doomsday -file "C:\Users\Tom\Documents\Doomsday Frontend\addons\SCYTHE.WAD" -iwad "C:\Doom 1, 2, TNT, Final & Ultimate\doom2.wad" -game doom2

If you prefer to use Snowberry you can fire up Scythe like this:
-Select the Doom 2 profile to the left.
-On the 'maps' tab SCYTHE.WAD should show up, if it's installed in the addon dir. Select SCYTHE.WAD (and no other wads).
-On the 'addon' tab make sure no wads are selected.
-On the 'settings' tab: Set 'Game Component' to 'libdoom', set 'Game Mode' to 'DOOM 2', and point 'Game data file' to the doom2.wad iwad file.
  • Sune...

I had to come back to your message here to get scythe/scytheII working again. This worked great. I saved my own instructions for doing it so I can refer back to them if need be.

    Thx
