  • No, this is for Doom, Heretic, Hexen and related. (Now known as id Tech 1)

    For Quake I, you'd want something like Quakespasm, Or vkQuake which is based on quakespasm with Vulkan support. Quakespasm uses OpenGL.

    For Quake 2, there's a few options. You can use Quake 2 RTX which is pretty recent. That supports both OpenGL and Vulkan. The RTX features are on Vulkan only.

    There's a vkQuake2 that's inspired by the one for Q1, but from another developer. There's also Quake 2 Pro, which is pretty good.

    My picks are vkQuake for the first, and Quake 2 RTX for the second.

    vquake? wow so that one im guess is better than quakespasm?

    Quake 2 pro?

    they sound very cool. do they have there own websites?

  • * Quakespasm:
    http://quakespasm.sourceforge.net/
    (the download section is called Manifestation)

    * vkQuake:
    https://github.com/Novum/vkQuake/releases

    * vkQuake2:
    https://github.com/kondrak/vkQuake2/releases

    * Quake 2 Pro:
    https://skuller.net/q2pro/

    * Quake 2 RTX. you can get this on steam or without steam. It will include the quake 2 demo files, or you can choose to use files from the retail version if you already have them installed in your computer.
    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/quake-ii-rtx-ray-traced-remaster-out-now-for-free/

    All these source ports can use assets from the demo or full version, but you have to supply those files yourself (except the last one).

    You don't need an RTX card to use Quake 2 RTX because it also support OpenGL. But you might need to do some configuring so it doesn't complain on you, the steam forums should help.
