Major Lag in Plutonia w/ resource pack

Does anyone else here experience major lag with the JDRP and Plutonia? I get 15fps as soon as I start map01 with the 3d models enabled. Turning off dynamic lights and decorations does not help (this is usually the issue in Doom and Doom2 for lag). I even get 30fps in map02 as soon as I start, even though no models are even visible on the screen. When I lower the water well, I get like 5fps at the bottom. This is with only a small amount of models visible. There are other maps that I can stare at nearly 30 models with no lag. I get the full 60fps when I disable 3d models in these maps. Any idea why I'm getting this kind of lag?

I'm using this resource pack:

Edit: Oh, and I'm using build 360.

  • I get the lag in that same spot without the resource pack.

3.4GHZ Pentium IV, 2.5 GB RAM, ATI RADEON X700.
  • You know what's odd? I tried Plutonia again today, and all of a sudden I have no lag whatsoever, even with all the resource packs on. I changed nothing. In fact, I can even turn on dynamic lights in the first map and get no lag now. It's almost like the lag will randomly occur. If this happens again, I'll try to report my findings. Maybe something in the .ded files is causing major lag, but does not occur all the time?
  • It is unlikely that it would be an engine configuration issue if the same config on another day produces a different result.

Have you considered whether it could be other software running on your system that is causing the issues? Antivirus software for example is notorious for causing these kind of issues (I had a similar issue with BitDefender and Batman Arkham Asylum a year or two back).

Nope, it's not other software running. I have a combined total of 25 processes running on my XP system on average, and I know what each and every process does. Most people have around 50 processes running. I don't have any anti-virus software or firewall programs, or ANY automatic update program or checker for that matter (not even windows update). Literally, I have the bare minimum amount of processes required to make windows XP work. I did check which processes were running on the day I had the lag, and they were the same processes I had on the day with no lag.

Come to think of it, I also experienced this issue in Heretic a little while back. Map01 dropped to about 12fps all of a sudden, but was back up to 60 after a simple restart of the game. I'm sure this is due to a quirky resource pack for Heretic. I played through all of Doom1 without this issue ever occurring.

I'm sure nothing can be done about this until the issue can be replicated, however. I'll look deeper into it if it occurs again.
