Two problems.

Alright, so my first problem was that when I joined the public co-op server all I see is the doomsday logo. I can't see my game. I can hear myself shooting and the music though. I am on yesterdays unstable build. (10/14)

My second problem is when I try to host a multiplayer server my console is really really fucked up.

My specs if it makes a difference.

Windows 8 Build 8102
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.1GHz
2.5GB DDR2 Ram
ATi Radeon HD 5450 1GB

Could it be windows 8? I couldn't run it without setting compatibility to windows 7.

  • Windows 8 is not presently supported, nor will it be until such time as it "goes gold". I can't speak for the whole of deng Team but I myself haven't even begun to experiment with the early "developer preview" releases of this OS. You may or may not have success running Doomsday on this platform...

I can however replicate the display issue with the dedicated console on Windows 7 and will look into it. It was working but clearly that is no longer the case.
  • I tried to join the Co-Op Doom1 server on a Win7 computer and it had the same problem.

Anyway... while I was in the Co-Op Doom2 server I suddenly just... well, fucked up. I wouldn't get hurt, wouldn't teleport, couldn't pick anything up and enemy's were frozen to me and didn't move/react to me.

99% of things that work with Windows 7 are completely compatible with Windows 8.

But yes, I haven't noticed any difference with Doomsday between Windows 7 and Windows 8. Its safe to say that is is compatible.

This happens when you disconnect but game doesn't "know" about it.

I expect so, however I also know that the developer preview you are are using is extremely early code and there is plenty of stuff "missing" atm.

This may be caused by the fact that the master's Windows build now uses the UNICODE interfaces. Most likely it's providing the console text strings in the wrong format (ANSI when Unicode expected?).
  • That does sound a likely cause. Until the console itself supports UNICODE strings it should be sufficient to simply convert the CBuffer'ed console output at draw time. Thanks, I'll look into it.
  • Yeah if you can get dedi working I would happily host a little 4 slot co-op. Any idea how much bandwidth each client uses a second? I only have 50kb/s upload to work with here.

Indeed this was the cause of the problem. Fixed for the next release.
