Ohloh'd / About News

This post was originally made by skyjake on the dengDevs blog. It was posted under the categories: Blog, Practices.

I recently remembered the existence of Ohloh, the open source social networking / tracking / analysis site. Our stats had been broken since last November, so I took some time to update the project info and fix the repository address. Some interesting statistics about the source code can be seen there. Danij, you might want to register yourself there and claim your contributions to the project.

In other news, I think the developer blog isn't the best place for high-profile project news such as release announcements. In the past there has been the (very cumbersome and limited) SourceForge.net news and the News forum in addition to the announcement here in the blog. I think that going forward, we should make project news bulletins only in the News forum. Everybody will be able to discuss the news items there. We are now able to embed the news items as an RSS feed into wherever we want. For instance, they're now in the Ohloh deng page. It would be very convenient to have a single place for making announcements, and have them automatically appear elsewhere.

When it comes to making a release, the blog is very suitable for discussion about the release preparations, though, as was recently done.
