Heretic won't start campaign

I downloaded the doomsday 1.9.0 (I was using 1.8.6) and I launched Heretic.It goes ok through the menu but when I try playing any episode it stops working and it say
"Paletted textures init failed
Sys_ChangeVideoMode: error fffffffe
P_LoadMap:"E1M1"
convertmap: Attempting conversion of "E1M1"

P_SetupMap: Failed loading map "E1M1" "
Could someone help me?

    Did you install it over the top of the earlier 1.8.6 version? If so then I suggest you wipe that installation and install a fresh copy in a new directory. The old and newer versions of the engine whilst compatible on file-level use somewhat different installation layouts and files from an older install can adversely effect newer releases.
