Wolfenstein 3D?

edited 2010 Jul 7 in General
I tried to search the forums, but according to the search engine Wolfenstein is a common word and can't be searched for. :/
So, are there any plans to support Wolfenstein 3D in the future? Or is that not even possible? I always wondered why there are many different Doom interpreters but no Wolf3D, it would be so cool to play that again with high-res textures and such.

  • DUDE! You've just got to know what to google, that's all! :D

    Check out these:

I haven't looked too much into them, but who knows? There might even be a flexible engine like Dengine to support a wide variety of Wolfenstein 3D Engine-based games!

    Seek and you will find!

EDIT: I looked a little more and found this seemingly-useful place for you:

Looks like a nice place, no interpreter stuff on there though.

    Thanks anyway. :)
  • I'm pretty sure I remember them mentioning eventual wolfenstein3d support in doomsday. Not sure though.
  • Our ultimate goal for Doomsday is to create an engine capable of supporting all 2.5d FPS games, including Wolfenstein3D. We've still got a long way to go before supporting non-DOOM engine based games becomes feasible though the 2.0 rewrite is a very significant step towards that goal.

So yes, ultimately Wolfenstein3D will be playable in Doomsday.
  • So, eventually Dengine will be for FPS what ScummVM is for Adventures? Sounds very nice. :)
But I assume that will take a lot of years to finish. :/
  • Indeed that is the plan. Obviously first-person-shooters are a great deal more complicated (and far more diverse) than point-n'-click adventures so it will certainly be a while before we can boast a similar range of game support to ScummVM.
  • There is a Wolfenstein 3D re-make in the Source engine that is used for Half-Life 2.

It may not be exactly what you are looking for since it is not a sourceport but you might take a look at it here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/sda
You need the game Half Life 2 Episode 2 for the engine to be able to use the mod though.
I haven't tried it out myself yet but until it is supported by Doomsday it may be an interesting mod to play.
  • WolfenDOOM WADs used to work pretty well for me in Doomsday: http://www.doomworld.com/wolfendoom/
I have ported the Wolfenstein missions to DOOM II, creating what is essentially an improved and updated Wolfenstein. Each scenario is painstakingly recreated as a DOOM II WAD, complete with all the Wolfenstein textures, objects, sounds, and enemies. The result is a total conversion, a complete Wolfenstein experience which takes full advantage of the DOOM engine. There are even ambient sounds.

There were some minor issues here and there if I remember correctly. I haven't had a chance to test it with any of the betas over the last couple years, but If you're looking to play Wolfenstein in Doomsday right now, it may be your best bet.
  • That Source Port doesn't seem to be downloadable yet. Will bookmark it, thanks!

WolfenDoom, I remember seeing that, but I can't find a download on the page. :/

It looks like all of their download links are broken. The WolfenDoom orginal missions as well as all of the others can be found packaged in a single zip file here:http://www.doomwadstation.com/main/wolfdoom.html

How are the games' differences, like Doom and Hexen, treated inside the engine? Are they treated independently or there are some set of features that are setup and there is only one engine that runs differently according to the setup?

Another question: did you understand what I just said? =))
