Can you spawn items?

I was wondering if there is a command line to spawn a particular item.
For example, after warping to a level I want to give myself the Backpack so I can hold more ammo.

A command like like this would be nice.
itemSpawn itemName

The item should spawn at the player's location.

Just did some research and found a list of console command cheats that specifically work for Doomsday. There is a way to give you the backpack directly

"give p"

There is also a "spawnmobj" command that can create a mobj of any given type. It does require XY coordinates, though.
