strange-I downloaded the latest version 1.9.0beta 7, loaded up my favorite wad (phoenix, at the moment)
and---everything's in white-all the scenery-all the character models-everything, even the main screen-which makes
choosing stuff and getting around pretty hard

You've not given us much to go on. doomsday.out? system specs? Even a screenshot would help...

Try deleting your user config files.

that seems to have done it-I'm running Doomsday 1.9.0 beta 6.7 and it all works fine now-graphics, opening screen, movement, everything fixed-before I'd try to move with mouse and bounce around all over the place-very annoying-
now smooth as can be- dunno what happened, but it's gone now
