jHRP - Firemace appearing in Episode 1

I just played through Heretic E1 using Doomsday 1.9b6.7 and the jHRP dated 2009-07-03. E1 is supposed to have no weapons higher than the Claw, but I found several Firemaces lying around. The first one was in E1M3, near the yellow key. A hidden door opens when you grab the key, with a couple warriors behind it, and the Firemace was in that little room. I turned off the resource pack and tried again and the firemace wasn't there. Turned it back on and it was back.

Now I just started a new game and no firemace. Weird.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

  • Actually, there are Firemace spots on E1M3 of Heretic. However they are flagged as multiplayer only and shouldn't appear in singleplayer.

    Hence if the Firemace is appearing in singleplayer on that map, it's a bug.

    Regarding it being there one time and then not the next; The Firemace only has a 25% (or some such value) chance of appearing at any Firemace spot on a map, and can also only appear at one.
  • I have now seen this bug myself as well. I am playing through Heretic on skill 4, and there was a Firemace in E1M3. This makes me wonder if other Multiplayer-only ammo is appearing as well. This is a pretty big bug, if so.

    Also, are torches supposed to last an entire level? I don't remember them being like that before.

    Indeed, they do accidently appear to be lasting the whole map; they should only last about a minuite.

    While we're on the subject of the Torch, I might as well cheekily link to this bug report regarding a different issue with it, that I made a while back: http://sourceforge.net/p/deng/bugs/1045/
  • I don't see how that Berserk behavior change in Risen3D is relevant Vermil. Its not like we have changed this deliberately, if anything its a bug and nothing more (however I'm a little perplexed as to how this might have happened).

    Edit: I've found the cause of errant Firemace spawning/repositioning and am presently preparing a fix. It is only the Firemace which is affected, its not a general issue.

    Edit2: Now fixed for tomorrow's upcoming Build 816.

    I fixed the Heretic torch for 1.10: it appropriately times out in 2 minutes and lits up everything with no regard to distance from the viewer.
