black screen issue [Windows; other programs in background]
Hi, I'm having a new issue:
now when I start any Doomsday engine game (Doom/Doom2/Heretic etc.) I only see a black screen (but I can hear the music).
The correct game image appears after about 30 seconds and then I can play normally.
Until yesterday I've never had this issue and game image was immediately available after launching!
I didn't any change in Doomsday frontend or Nvidia settings (yesterday the only changes I did in my system were: installing a new scanner and 3 new programs for Windows 7: VueScan, Nitro PDF and EaseUS Todo Backup).
So... what happened to Doomsday?
Thanks for your support

I only installed EaseUS Todo to backup the C: partition and Nitro PDF to read Pdf files.
Sincerely I can't find a logical connection between this things and Doomsday issue but I may be wrong).
I'm absolutely sure I didn't make any changes in Nvidia settings or Doomsday ones (I only opened "Nvidia geforce experience" icon in Windows 7 to have a look but with no changes).
(The yellow triangle, that normally appeared before the issue too, is the only thing visible in those 30 seconds of "black screen"; the music, as mentioned above, can be heard).
I'm posting here my doomsday.out content:
Are you having this problem with other programs besides Doomsday, if you are maybe your video diver or its settings has a problem
- tried to untick all add-ons and run a game
- tried to disable scanner (driver and hardware) in my system
- tried to reset Nvidia settings to its default (first installation settings, when Doomsday surely worked fine)
Still black screen issue! (no other program seems to have problems in my current situation)
Ok, obviously i can wait 30 or 40 seconds for the image to appear, this is not a problem, but I'd like to know what happened... I can't see in my above Doomsday.out some tip to understand it...
Has your internet browser slowed down at all? Are you having any other problems with your computer? Does it seem that windows is loading slower? Check and see if anything new is running at start up. If so then set it to manual. Other than that, I don't know what else to tell you.
I had a problem where all of a sudden my windows 8.1 would boot to a black screen, it turned out that windows had quit recognizing my card, I didn't know this at first and did a full format and re install only to have the same problem, I finally switched out my vid card to an older one that was on a shelf and all was well.
I guess what I'm saying is, it may not be a DDay problem.
I consider it a "mystery" exactly for this reason: doomsday black screen issue is the only new issue... all the rest is going perfectly, any program. There were no windows updates since the doomsday issue started, video resolution is the same, drivers are the same, Windows is not slower and all seems to be OK.
Everything is the same as before, except the Doomsday problem.
My last actions before I realized the problem were: a whole partiton backup using EaseUS Todo; installation of Nitro Pdf to open Pdf files and installation of Vuescan to manage my scanner. None of these programs/situations seems to have known bugs or conflicts with Doomsday or Nvidia... but I am not sure at all.
I yet launched a Malwarebytes scan and there are no suspicious files in my system.
I will try to make further assumptions but at the moment I have no ideas...
I have no more ideas at the moment... I only know that until 16th of October everything was working normally...
/usr/bin/doomsday -nofsaa
If you are running realtime antivirus you could try disabling that, as this could slow things down.
Also you could try to disable your internet connection, to see if the hanging has to do with some kind of server connection timeout. But now I'm just grasping at straws
Are you able to click at the triangle to see the warnings?
I forgot to say that I'm using the frontend (last stable versions of both frontend and doomsday engine). My PC is new (X99 Asus motherboard, I7 5820k extreme cpu and Asus/Nvidia gt730 gpu)
I tried de -nofsaa option but nothing changed, tried to run in a window too, but I can't "read" what exactly happens in those 30 second of "hanging".
But I could open the Yellow triangle inside the game and notice an "HOST NOT FOUND" warning. May be the cause of the issue??
I've just tried to disable internet connection (unplugging my lan cable) and yet tried to disable Windows firewall too...but the black screen is still present.
So, is there a way to disable any network option in Doomsday to avoid the search of that host and see if it is the reason of my "black screen" issue? Or any other way to solve or configure network options in doomsday engine?
(in the frontend I don't see network options).
There are two reasons why Doomsday will try to "call home":
What is your current Master API URL setting? The default is "dengine.net/master.php".
I tried many solutions and, thanks to my old desktop PC too, I could repeat any step I did with my new PC: so I proceeded to install in my old pc the same 3 software I installed on the new one and to run Doomsday after each program installation. (Doomsday running fine before trying it, and completely different hardware in this PC).
Well, the "black screen" issue appeared after I installed EasyUS Todo Backup 8.8, so I had no more doubt in attributing the cause to this software. Before uninstalling it from my new PC, I tried to kill its processes first... but it wasn't enough: the black screen issue was still present. So I completely uninstalled it and the black screen issue desappeared immediately.
It's a strange issue, because this software is very common and used. I don't know exactly the cause of the conflict with Doomsday, should be investigated, but I'm happy now, because this issue was bothering me, since I didn't know the reason :-)
Thanks to all!
