Problems [with old Intel Graphics chipsets]

I am using 1.8.6, because the newer versions refuse to work on my notebook. Intel duo core, crappy family 4 graphics using main memory for graphics.
I am having a problem with brightness and contrast. The console does not help much. Eventually the screen turns darker and I can see nothing. Way to much contrast.

This does not happen in other games other than doomsday

Have you tried the 1.10.4 release? That might still work with old Intel OpenGL drivers...

also with laptops if you have it setup or just have it default it will dim the screen automatically. i do have a laptop and when it's not plugged in it dims the screen.
