Loop in Seven Portals- Guardian of Ice [1.14 unstable]

edited 2014 Apr 5 in Technical Support
Dear friends, need help here.

After the opening of the second door in Seven Portals, that leads to Guardian of Ice, I entered the portal, kill all the monsters and hit the switch at the end of the room, downstairs. The 4 crushing columns begin to work: when I choose the right column (with the sword pointing at it), I came back to the same room at Seven Portals that I was before, in a loop: all the items are there as before (flasks, vials, blue mana) and the monsters too.

The door to the Seven Portals yard is shut and I couldn't manage to open: the only way out is to enter the Guardian of Ice portal again and repeat all the process, with the same results, in an endless loop.

Sorry for my bad english, need help to solve this bug!

  • Please update to the latest build 1189, this issue was caused by a non-flushed savegame state write which has since been fixed.
  • Dear DaniJ

Appreciate your quick reply, but I'm still in trouble: I am using the latest build 1189 (I have downloaded and started Hexen today!), but I'm stuck at the same room in Seven Portals, behind the closed golden door over and over. If I could have your email, I can get you a print screen of this issue. Mine is aromero2000@hotmail.com.

I have already uninstalled and re-installed Doomsday with no avail. But when I did it, my old savegames are there, is that normal?

Another thing: when I start Doomsday, in the loading screen (with the gear), I can see a lot of small command prompt windows popping up and at the main menu there is an icon (a yellow triangle) at the top right of the screen. When I click on it, it shows a warning: "ignoring invalid sprite named..." (a lot of sprites ignored).

I'm trying to undestand, because I never got this issue before.

    Thanks in advance.
  • Most of the issues you are seeing are specific to the upcoming 1.14 version which we are currently polishing for release. Unfortunately, we entered into the candidate phase with several known usability issues, in Hexen in particular. If you simply want to play the game then it might be better to install the current stable version for now, until we've sorted them out.

The command windows are the savegame conversion utility which converts old saves into a new package format. Savegames are retained when reinstalling and so are converted automatically on next load. Its a little messy at present but this is expected behavior. These windows will be hidden soon, with conversion done in the background.

The "ignoring invalid sprite named..." messages and yellow warning triangle can be ignored as these are caused by benign errors in the original Hexen data package. These warnings have yet to be updated to use the new context flags, which allow mod authors creating custom content to see them, without disturbing end users. Presently everyone will see them.

Edit: We've since fixed various file system and savegame bugs related to this. You should have a better time with the next build.
