Help with 1.13.0 multiplayer

Hi everybody, I am new here but have been playing Doom since the 1990's. I have used the doomsday engine throughout the years and I think it is the best thing ever! I once had three to four computers hooked up at one time in my house for LAN partys using Snowberry and I was able to figure everything out to get the multiplayer to run perfect. I just set all the computers back up again with doomsday 1.13.0. I believe I am following the instructions and doing everything that I need to do but I just cant seem to get multiplayer to work. I start a server using Doomsday Shell on one computer, get it all up and running fine, and am able to connect into this server on the computer I started the server on. When I try to connect with a second computer I get a segmentation violation. Then the server computer player gets kicked out with the segmentation violation but the newly connected player / computer stays connected to the server. Am I missing something? Please bear with me because I am not as computer literate as I would like to be.... I really would appreciate any help.

  • One thing to try is to not use resource packs on the client, since they are not loaded on the server.

    Some resource packs make changes to game data in ways that may be incompatible if you are not using them.
  • Thanks Skyjake, I will try that a little later although I am pretty sure I already tried that... I will also try a complete uninstall of everything and see If I get the same segmentation violation.
  • OK ... tried a complete reinstall of doomsday engine / doomsday shell 1.13.0 and set up the server (Computer #1). I connected fine to it with that computer (Computer #1 / the one I am running the server on)(no resource packs or anything added). Then I did a complete reinstall of doomsday engine / doomsday shell 1.13.0 and set up on the second computer (Computer #2)(no resource packs or anything added). As soon as I connect with Computer #2 to the server / Computer #1 I get the segmentation violation on computer #1. Here is the pastebin:

    I am not sure what is going on in that doomsday.out but maybe you guys / gals might?

    *The only thing that I can think of is that I may not have gotten everything off of these computers when I did the uninstalls? But like I said I really am not as computer savy as I would like to be. Thank you all for the help!
  • I found and fixed a bug: http://tracker.skyjake.fi/issues/1702

    It should work in 1.13.1 that will be released this weekend.

  • So I tried the 1.14 unstable build 1099 and everything worked fine on doom 2 (played with Add ons until level 13). I had 3 computers hooked up playing coop multiplayer . Thanks for the fix!!!
