debian packages uninstallable in Debian 7.x wheezy

edited 2014 Jan 10 in Technical Support
Hi there,

The debian packages containing the deng enging built for every version have a requirement of libc > 2.14

Currently Debian 7.x wheezy has a heavily patched version of 2.13. There's an old beta version of the 1.9.x series in the debian repositories, meaning that deng can be built just fine with an older libc.

Is it possible to reduce the version number limitation in the deb packages so that doomsday can be installed in any debian system (stable, testing and unstable)?

Thanks

Andres

PS: I got the source now, and I'm going to try to make my own packages.

  • Sorry, but we do not offer packages for Debian. The Doomsday .deb packages are currently for Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.10.

I can provide assistence with building Doomsday from source.

Well the packages that you offer work like a charm in Debian testing branch which has libc 2.17. I've tried it there and played a lot of games.

Thanks. I actually managed to build a debian package using the python script in the source tarball. I had to modify something in the debian folder but it built perfectly fine in Debian Wheezy 7.x (stable branch) with libc 2.13.
I tested it with several games and it worked just fine, including local network games.

I understand you build packages targeting Ubuntu, after all it has a larger userbase. But let me point out that Ubuntu is based on Debian and so are many other distros out there. If you make packages that install fine in Debian, they are likely to be fine in Debian, Ubuntu and many others.
