Is it possible to "fly" in Doom or Doom2 ?

I found an intriguing option in the "Controls" menu:
"Fly Up" - PageUp / E
"Fly Down" - Insert / Q

What does it mean? I tried them and nothing happened.

    Flight is handled as a cheat when playing DOOM; open the console and enter "give f" to give yourself the power of flight. After which you'll then able to fly using similar controls to Heretic/Hexen.
