Segmentation violation when attempting to join multiplayer

Searched around for answers, but I just can't seem find anything on this issue. Please let me know if I overlooked something.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
DE ver: 1.6
DS ver: 1.12.2

I'm running a DOOM server locally on my machine via Doomsday Shell, which seems to run fine. However, if I try to connect to it, I get a (seemingly random) segmentation violation. I mostly get it when attempting to connect, but there was one attempt in which I actually connected successfully... until my friend shot me, which caused a segmentation violation.

  • For anyone experiencing this same issue in the future, I managed to figure it out on my own. In version 1.12.2, if you change the Renderer preset to "Vanilla," you will crash when playing on and/or connecting to a 1.12.2 Doomsday Engine server. All other presets seem to work fine.
