Please Help--restore controls default on a Mac

edited 2013 Sep 30 in Technical Support
I have installed the Doomsday Engine successfully, and have complete .WAD files for Doom and Hexen. In Doom, under Options, I tried to change the 'jump' control from 'slash' to 'space' but instead of the DEL key clearing the field, it marks it as an added 'Backspace' command for jump... If that made sense.
There is no way to clear the controls field and I have tried reinstalling WAD and Engine twice to no avail.
It will not forget the controls values no matter what I do, and now the entire game is unusable since I mistakenly put keystrokes in the Autosave field???

  • I think if you enter in "clearbindings; defaultbindings" into the console (without the quotes) that might be able to do it.
  • The "trick" to using the Delete key in the Controls menu is that you need to press it instead of Enter; so you are not actually in the "waiting for a key" screen, but rather just press Delete. Also, note that if your keyboard does not have a numeric keypad, you'll need to actually press Fn+Backspace to produce a Delete keypress.

In addition to "clearbindings; defaultbindings", you can also go to ~/Library/Application Support/Doomsday Engine/runtime/configs/{game}/player/ and delete the bindings.cfg file. This needs to be done when Doomsday is not running.
  • Wow you guys are fast! Thank you, the console commands worked perfectly.
Yes, I had to use 'Fn' + DEL to set the controls correctly. I feel ridiculous for not knowing that !

    Anyway I appreciate it.!
