Ubuntu 12.04 fglrx 3d Models Problem

edited 2014 Jan 6 in Technical Support
Hello,

I have same strange issues with the JDRP in Doomsday stable on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. Some Models are just not loaded (e.g. Pistol, the imp)
The attacking of an imp happens and after shooting it, the dead body is on the floor.
Also all skyboxes are broken und react strange.

I have tried to correct my locales, tried different drivers but the problem remains.

Problem is also with deng1.12 unstable.

Tried different ressource Packs, but it's the same.

Hoping somebody has a clue.
Thank you and kind reagrds
Phil

  • Hi, I'm using also Ubuntu 12.04 64bit and the gflrx graphicsdriver V13.25.18

    Installed is:
    Doomsday 1.12.2 2/11/2013 · Ubuntu 12.04+ (64bit)
    FMOD Ex Audio Plugin 1.0.2 2/11/2013 · Ubuntu 12.04+ (64bit)
    jdrp-packaged-20070404.zip.torrent

I see the same graphic issus described by Phil.
    no pistol
Imp is invisible until he is dead
Shotgun dude is only visible as a moving stamp on the ground, when dead it has a zero high
big armors green und blue are also stamp like without a high
skyboxes are missing and are drawn with crazy flickerung artefacts from wall textures

But the general gameplay is fully OK.
    Thx for making Doomsday!
  • Figured out in actual stable Release with the JDRP Box Model the Shotguns appear.
The Imp and Pistal still is invisible. Also no Skyboxes work.

I think it is a problem adressing the correct Models and Paths.

The DEngine has alwas some Python errors while switching some configuration. The seem Problems with UTF8 Decoder....

  • Could be a case issue? i.e the ded is written with lowercase paths, but ones actual folders are in uppercase?

But then, Nevander has indicated a problem with invisible models on Windows 7 (he stated that was his OS in a different thread).

  • It is more than likely that these are caused by video driver issues.

That is really no driver Problem! I have tried many different ones.... and why should it be a driver issue, when all other stuff works pretty fine, except the Doomsday-Engine?!?
    I don't like such "lump-sum arguments"! O:-)

With different Ressource Packages work different things and others won't. May be it es a Load-Order issue, too.
I'm pretty sure it is a problem addressing the ressources.
With the JDRP Box Version only, the Imp is invisible, beside of its death animation. Combining with the JDRP+fixes Packages, the Imp ist there.
Also the Plasmagun projectiles are not visible with the box model -only the shining. Adding the extra JDRP it is visible.

The UTF8 errors have to do with translations. Setting the language in Setup-Wizzard "Deutsch" the errors occur.
    Staying "English" everything is fine.

    No offense ;)

  • Sorry but the fact of the matter is that lately we've seen all kinds of odd video related issues on Ubuntu that turned out to be driver issues.

The only reason I commented was to try and keep the thread in perspective. There is no point in dreaming up new solutions until the obvious potential causes have been proven incorrect.
  • Hi,

i must admit, maybe you are really right.
I tested the Windows-Version under wine. It works like a charme!! >:)

    I'm happy.

but it is really crooked. The Imp of the old DMP works, the one of JDRP not, but all other monster. Ubuntu and the Python-Subsystem und graficdrivers are somtetimes really strange.

    Thank you fpr your effort.

    Regards
    Phil
