NotFoundError when starting playing

edited 2013 Aug 27 in Technical Support
Hello,

the most recent build sort of "broken" snowberry (and doomsday), whenever I start a game, it gives me the following error:
App init failed:
[NotFoundError] (Record::operator []) Variable 'update.delete' not found

This doesn't really seem to be a bug, more like an error on my side. I was just starting doomsday straight to the bin and using the new Shell (running doomsday.exe directly), although I didn't find any way to start any mod/add-on from there. Having one or the other working will be good enough for me. I tried reinstalling it, deleted the folder, everything, and the error persists (I will make it clear that this same build was working still, but my attempt to "fix" snowberry ruined everything).

Any help?

  • The Shell is solely intended for administering Doomsday Servers for multiplayer games. If a singleplayer game is what you're after then you need to be using the Doomsday Client (which on Windows is bin/doomsday.exe).

    Assuming your IWADs are findable by Doomsday (i.e., without the help of Snowberry) then you can certainly launch the client directly and change game later using the Ring Zero GUI. Note however that this means you'll need to load add-ons manually from the console.

    However, it sounds to me like you want to get Snowberry (and Doomsday) working. You may have ended up with a partial installation, so first I would suggest you manually re-install the same version of Doomsday over the top of your existing install and then try again (don't worry about your settings or save games, they'll be retained). Let us know how you get on.
  • It's also worth adding "-reset" to the command line options. That will make Doomsday delete your evidently malfunctioning configuration in "(runtime folder)/persist.pack" and start with the default settings.

    At the moment one should always be starting Doomsday via the Snowberry frontend or with Doomsday Shell, if running a multiplayer host.
  • Hello, I couldn't get rid of this issue without installing the stable branch (1.11). I was trying a clean install with the latest build and wasn't solving anything.

    My resolution was to just install 1.11 and then build 968 (latest at time of this writing) on top of it like DaniJ said, whatever it was, it's now gone, only snowberry is working though, but ringzero (executed directly from doomsday.exe) gives me the same error still.

    One little correction, I was referring to the Ringzero GUI and called it the "Shell" by mistake, my bad. :)
