New version laggy and jerky, can't rollback

edited 2013 Apr 8 in Technical Support
I installed the new version of Doomsday 1.10.10 last night and discovered the mouse is very laggy, it jerks when I collect powerups and the enemies seem to jitter around. I tried to uninstall 1.10.10 and reinstall the flawless 1.9.10 again, and it seems that 1.9.10 runs just as bad as 1.10.10 now. Is there any way to cleanly remove 1.10.10 and reinstall 1.9.10 again?

  • I also can't enter teleporters, guns don't shoot, monsters get stuck and I couldn't access DOOM II's level 1 25, it just game me a DE logo.
  • there is always a way to remove old programs. that is to delete them.
  • It sounds to me like you are describing the differences between the different methods of mouse movement interpretation that Doomsday supports. In Doomsday 1.10 the options were adjusted so that by default it will try to emulate the original games more closely, (i.e., movement is quantized into linearly applied steps once every 1/35 of a second). This may be what you are objecting to and perceiving as "laggy/jerky".

At present one must manipulate various cvars from the console to adjust this behavior: To clear your configuration settings in 1.10 - delete your persist.pack.
  • Thanks, I'll try that! Also, what is causing the game elements to not respond, such as teleporters, unable to shoot, monsters getting stuck and a brief hang when I collect powerups? Finally, why would it give me a DE logo when I level skipped to E1M25 on Doom II?
  • Perhaps corrupt .cfg files? Try deleting your .cfg files in your runtime folder.

You could also try disabling FSAA and/or vsync to see if that has any effect (in Control Panel or with "vid-vsync" / "vid-fsaa" cvars).
