Doom: HUD and Map rendering errors
I searched to see if anyone posted about a similar HUD error, but couldn't find any other topics.
At first when I tried to run any Doom game, the game would crash upon trying to load any map due to the "segmentation violation" error. I checked various Doom game forums and found the suggestion to set the texture maximum size to 128x128. So I did, and was finally able to load the starting maps for Doom 1, 2, and Final Doom.
The game is playable, but there seems to be a rendering error, because the HUD is offscreen. I'll see the initial letters of the map name, like the "HA" in "HANGAR" for Doom 1, but it's off to the right side of the screen. When I go to the automap, the same thing happens. The map and the HUD both seem to be centered somewhere down and to the right of the actual game screen; the axis of rotation for the map is not the center of my game screen. The same thing, I suspect, prevented me from seeing the crosshair when I enabled it. Messages do not show up either, because they've also been pushed offscreen. I'm using the default resolution of 640x480.
Has this happened to anyone else? Do you know how to fix it? This error occurs whether in fullscreen or windowed mode, both with and without the add-ons enabled. I never had this problem when playing the Doom Absolution TC.
