Running Doomsday 1.9.0 beta 6.9 multiplayer error

edited 2013 Mar 27 in Technical Support
I realize that this is an older version of the software, but the newer versions have not been running on this particular machine, and been running into opengl problems, so I've been having to use this. Anyway, after trying to join a multiplayer game, I ran into the following error.

1 server has been found.
Name: P/M L Ver: Game: Location:
0 : Doomsday 1/16 10900 jdoom 1.15.9 :13209
E1M2 (DOOM.WAD:cdce4c) p:0ms Multiplayer Host
doom1-ultimate skill4 coop jump
Players: Player
N_InitService: In/out UDP port 13209.
N_SendDataBufferReliably: Tried to send 3 bytes (max pkt size 2).

This error has been crashing the application. Can somebody help me with this? Thank you in advance.

  • I'm afraid before 1.9.7 the multiplayer code was quite severely broken and suffered many errors like this one. I would recommend forgetting about netgames in the old betas, it isn't worth the trouble...

Perhaps we can find a way to run the newer versions on your machine? Could you tell a little more about the issues you're having?
  • Oh that's unfortunate. Well the problem I was running into was it said it required OpenGL version 1.4, and said I had 1.3.1072. I ensured the drivers were completely up to date for the gpu. Note I'm running a RADEON 9200. On top of that, this machine was also having some difficulties recognizing and searching for a multiplayer server.
  • A search on Google yielded this unfortunate information regarding your card, from the second post on this forum thread:

"ATI only supports OpenGL 1.4+ on Radeon 9500 or better hardware."

  • Ah I figured that was going to end up being the case. So the question becomes which latest version doesn't have that OpenGL requirement, and has a stable netgame build? Because I'm not in a position to supply this machine with a newer gpu at the present time.
  • You could try launching with the "-noglcheck" option. It makes Doomsday ignore the OpenGL version, but you may have some draw errors/visual glitches.
