Hostnames vs IP Address (Network Multiplayer)

edited 2012 Nov 30 in Technical Support
I've been out of the loop for a bit (running 1.9.8) so maybe this is fixed already?

Running as a non-master dedicated server for a game with friends:

I am unable to use a hostname (specifically a dynamic hostname) as a server location for network games. If players use my actual IP address, connectivity is fine. This is not an issue with the hostname, as I use this dynamic hostname very often on a daily basis for many things.

Has this been addressed already? A known issue?

Thanks!

  • hosting multyplayer servers is not in atm you can however run a dedicated server tho i do not know how to do that.
  • Sorry - should have said that I was running my server in "dedicated" mode. However, the game client is actually making the hostname request.

I am able to use "localhost" when connecting locally to my own dedicated server. However, remote players must use my actual IP address in order to connect. They can't use a dynamic hostname.
