Control keys + mouse binding problem + Crashes
Hello,
First of all, I just want to say thank you so much for an amazing job you guys have done and putting so much patience into this engine plus games. It has been an amazing experience with one of my old childhood games, mainly the DOOM series, and I congratulate all of you who have put effort into this program. However, I am having a bit of a problem with the control settings for the keyboard and mouse, the settings just stack to infinity with no option to either reset defaults, or have the option to clear settings for individual actions.
The problem is that I used to be able to move and have the automap on at the same time, and during my gameplay all of a sudden I was not able to move while the map was up, because the ASWD keys are assigned to both moving and moving the map, which immobilizes me while the map is up. I tried rewriting the config by selecting the same keys to different actions in hopes to rewrite the setup, but multiple actions can have the same keys as long as the actions are in different categories, such as Movement, Map etc. Unfortunately, the default keybindings can't be change/cleared and it seems that sometimes the ASWD keys being bind to both map movement and character movement can sometimes cause an issue. I think being able to clear the default key bindings and customizing them yourself would eliminate these conflicts and to prevent infinite key bind stacking when trying to overwrite key bindings.
I think it would be wonderful if these changes were implemented. I went into the config folder in the Doomsday install directory, but I don't know which file to delete to reset my control key options and keep everything else, cause I don't want to config everything from scratch. I would be very grateful if this issue is resolved in the near future.
Regardless, everything is well made and well implemented despite the problem I am having. I am currently using everything you guys have to offer in the addon section - Textures, music, sound effects etc. And it makes the game a completely new and amazing experience and I thank you guys so much for bringing new life to the ID classics.
Sincerely,
Toby Varga
EDIT: Also, I figured I would add this as well. The Doomsday.exe will crash every now and then. I can play most of the time, but sometimes when I run Doomsday.exe, Windows will pop up with a Doomsday.exe has stopped working with a Close program/Check for solutions option when Doomsday.exe is trying to load the addons. Sometimes it will load the addons and I can play, and sometimes it won't and just crash.
For the record, for my system, not sure if this applies to everyone, but the Doomsday.out is located in C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\Doomsday Frontend\runtime, and not C:\Users\<user name>\Doomsday Frontend\runtime\. Just figured I would mention this, just in case it would be helpful. Anyways here is my Doomsday.out log, or you can go here - http://pastebin.com/GsWLbUXy. Thank you.
EDIT 2: I found the bindings file and deleted it to config my bindings again. So I got everything working again and can move while the map is up once more. Hopefully this bug won't happen any time soon.

If for whatever reason you end up with an unusable control configuration, either open the console and enter "clearbindings;defaultbindings" or simply delete your bindings config file (as you found out).
As for crashing bug, we'd need to know a bit more about the problem. I can't tell from your description what the problem might be.
As for the crash bug, I don't really know what's going on with that. The most detailed I can be is quite simply that sometimes I launch Doomsday.exe and pick Ultimate DOOM for example and it will go to the black loading screen with the circle that shows the progress of the loading. As soon as the loading circle attempts to load addons, it will load the addons half way, making the circle half way complete, but then Windows pop up that says "Doomsday.exe has stopped working" with options "Close this program" and "Search online for a solution." I have sat for about 5 minutes to see if it is just lagging, but with no progress, forcing me to select close program, and sometimes I can't hit escape to close the program and my mouse sometimes becomes hidden so I can't click on close program, which forces me to open task manager and close it to free up the lock up to alt tab to click on close program, or remain in task manager to end the task etc.
That's pretty much all that happens. However, sometimes if I open up Gamebooster and click "Restore" and click "Start Boost" again, sometimes that will allow me to reopen Doomsday.exe and the addons will completely load and begin playing again. I've noticed also just recently that the loading time between maps is taking a little while longer to load as well.
This multithreaded access bug is currently my top priority and I have been working to fix this since I first became aware of the issue. The current plan is to release a patch for Doomsday 1.9.9 which includes a fix for this issue in a few weeks time.
I am surprised I haven't ran into it sooner. I mainly just played Zdoom in the past, lol. But this beats Zdoom by light years. My jaw dropped with the modding capabilities this program has and can completely remake and overhaul the DOOM series. So I was very pleased and impressed with the textures and especially the original DOOM music with the Roland Sound Canvas SC-155. With all these fine features, it just seemed to good to be true, but once I found out it was true and starting playing, I rejoiced. Thanks so much for this awesome program. I can now play DOOM in a more enhanced and new light.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the game.
And yes I am very much enjoying what you guys have developed. It's absolutely amazing and gives nostalgia a new meaning.
