doomsday.out error

Every time i open the program to use the program it comes up with the error message: couldn't open message output file: doomsday.out. i click okay and then it goes into the program or something but it's just a console with a doomsday engine background, i have to type in the game i play in it then it runs. However i can only play the first doom, it will not allow me to play the second doom.

edit: i can play doom2 i just forgot how to use the console command.

    Please tell us a little more about your problem. Which OS are you using? Which version of Doomsday? How are you starting Doomsday? Where have you installed Doomsday?
