Invisible enemies, weapons, and items

I installed new add-ons from the dengine.net site and now the enemies and items in the doom series games are invisible. Also my weapon in the hud is invisble too. The add-ons didn't add new music, better models, or textures either.

  • You'll have to give us some more information before we can help. Which add-ons? Which version of Doomsday? Where is your doomsday.out?

The add-ons I using are the following from the dengine.net site:

    DOOM High-quality sound pack 2010.01.09
    DOOM High-resolution Texture Project
DOOM High-resolution User interface Pack 2012.02.23
    Slide's Skyboxes
    jDRP (packaged) 1.01

Aside from this I am very disappointed with doomsday 1.9.8 compared to 1.8.6 because I had high resolutions textures, 3D models, and High-quality music that worked in 1.8.6 and none of these this work with the new add-ons for 1.9.8. I will continue to use 1.8.6 on WIndows until you fix these problems and I can enjoy playing these games again with add-ons and until you do I think the 1.9.x doomsday engines are terrible and more complicated to use compared to 1.8.6 and earlier.
  • I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble however this sounds like a configuration issue. These add-ons do work just fine, for me and many others.

Rather than give up why not try to determine why they aren't working for you?

Edit: Split topic in two as it was becoming very confusing doing technical support for both vlio's and scharfshutze's similar issues (however, with likely different causes) in the one thread.

Looking at your doomsday.out, other than a few warnings by WAV_MemoryLoad() regarding unsupported .WAV format sound files, it all looks pretty normal.

I can see that the textures for the models you said aren't working are being loaded and prepared for render. What does it look like in-game, are they simply not drawn at all?

As for the crash, that could be due to an issue in build 542 that was inadvertently introduced while I was refactoring the game save system for autosaving. This issue has since been fixed, though, so please try today's build 546 when that goes live (I expect it to be available by 13:00 GMT).

That is deliberate, as the log file is plain text we normally ask that users post it directly into the thread (using [/code] tags). The reason being that uploading a log that will quickly become obsolete, will use up the forum's attachment quota with no long term benefit.

If your gonna make the game autosave I would prefer you make a way to turn autosave off because I don't want it to autosave. Also there's a bug in Episode I of Doom on the computer station level because the platform is supposed to come down from the ceiling in that part of the level and it didn't, which happened to be on my Mac and I wasn't using any addons. By the way I'm not using any WAV audio files for music just the addon's currently listed on dengine.net for my PC.
  • The post you quoted was in response to vlio's post (prior to thread split).

There is no need to make the autosaving itself optional because you aren't forced to load the resultant save state (this part of the mechanism is already optional).

The stuck column in DOOM E1M7 is a known issue that we intend to address in an upcoming release.

You are in fact using WAV audio files because you stated you are using the 'DOOM High-quality sound pack 2010.01.09' add-on.

What DaniJ means by this is that, Dday will always make an auto save. However using the auto save when you die isn't on by default (outside of HeXen as the original game featured autosaving and forced you to use it, else you wouldn't have puzzle pieces needed to progress); you currently have to enable it using a console command and it will probably be turned into a menu option.

Thank you for letting me know I'm using WAV audio files, but a little more warning would have been nice as to the fact that this indeed uses wav on your site.

Yes the models simply aren't drawn and if its related to the High quality audio pack how do I remove it because Doomsday isn't letting me click the minus sign to remove the add-on. Are you suggesting I delete the add-on in Windows through the file browser?

I would have thought that was self-evident, in the same way that loading a high resolution texture pack implies you will be loading new textures.

It is unlikely that the sound pack is causing your models not to appear, it is probably something else entirely.

You still haven't uploaded your doomsday.out for us to inspect.

I will upload the doomsday.out file to http://www.filedropper.com/doomsdayout as soon as I can afford the subscription to filedropper.
  • You can post the out file directly to these forums, using 'Code Tags'
    blah blah

You can find the code tag button just above the message reply window.

I tried to upload my doomsday.out file to dengine.net but it said .out not allowed and when I tried to use the code headers it said exceeded 60000 character limit.
  • Split it across two posts then ;)
  • I uploaded the output of my doomsday.out file to the following: http://www.filedropper.com/doomsday

I hope this helps improve doomsday.
