Can’t install Hexen. Please help.

So, I downloaded Doomsday Engine 2, installed it and got to the 2-panel-startup screen.
Here I chose the folder containing my Hexen WAD files which led me to this screen:

The manual was no help from this point on, since it mentions things like a “game library” and other UI elements which I can’t find.

When I click on the package it leads to the following screen.

Clicking on “play in” does nothing except displaying a small black rectangle. There is a “add to” button which I used to add it to the entry labeled “Hexen”. This doesn’t seem to be doing anything either.

With no other apparent options, I tried launching it from the command line which yielded the follow error: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g97bko1fy8qpbls/Screenshot 2018-10-25 15.05.40.png?dl=0

What does that even mean? Couldn’t find any answers in the manual or in this forum.
At this point I really miss the sleek old Snowberry frontend, where Hexen just worked at first try. 😢

I would really appreciate any help with this issue. I miss Hexen and would really like to see the new deng version.

Well, this is where things went wrong for some reason.

I assume you clicked the "Select IWAD Folder" button, where you selected the folder. But for some reason, Doomsday doesn't think your HEXEN.WAD is good, because it wasn't recognized as the Hexen IWAD.

If you don't mind zipping the file and posting it to me in a private message, I could analyze if it is indeed somehow broken. Also, could you look up the "doomsday.out" log file (~/Library/Application Support/Doomsday Engine/runtime/doomsday.out), that might contain something helpful.

A few other people have also had trouble with WADs not being recognized, so there may be a bug that you encountered here.
  • Thanks for the quick answer! I'll PM you asap.
  • Going forward, the Macintosh version of the Hexen WAD will now be recognized: https://tracker.dengine.net/issues/2287
