  • nice, you went with kvm? virtualbox? using vagrant to manage the virtual machines?
  • There's only two VMs, so I'm just managing them by hand. One is Fedora running in VirtualBox, and the other is Windows 10 in VMware. I might switch both to VirtualBox at some point. I've been using VMware with Windows guests for a long time thanks to its decent compatibility features.
  • I realize I'm a random stranger (that's benefited from your work!) commenting on an older post, but between this and http://dengine.net/blog/2016/07/a-slow-build/, it sounds like you're building (in a VM) on a traditional platter HDD (sharing another VM and the OS)?!? If so, you've got to get an SSD, even if just for the build directories! (It may sound elementary, but I've learned to not assume anything about what people smart/talented in one area know.) If it's a question of time/resources/money, then I understand, but even a $60 bargain drive would make a world of difference!

Also, you're running both Virtualbox AND VMWare on the same hardware?

Don't worry, the VMs are running on a separate SSD. :)

That is correct. Previously I was running everything on VMware, but I'm considering switching everything over to VirtualBox at some point. Thus far only the Fedora VM is running on VirtualBox.
  • glad you got everything up and running agen my machine that is 4 years old has had some problems and still is. now i am just waiting for something else to die in it.
