Node Builders Question

edited 2014 Jul 15 in General
I am building a map for Doom2 using Doom Builder. Is there a preferred node builder for the Doomsday Engine?

  • In general you don't need to worry too much about the nodes when mapping specifically for Doomsday. Doomsday uses its own internal node builder when loading your map, meaning that its not necessary to prebuild the nodes. Although, if you want your map to be playable in multiple ports then its best to build them anyway as most ports don't have an internal node builder. For this reason, I'd suggest using ZDBSP to build the "normal" nodes for your map. Doomsday will actually ignore these presently (and will always ignore the GL nodes) but this should ensure fairly wide compatibility.
  • Thanks for the quick reply. I've been using Zen Nodes so far. Is ZDBSP better for a complex map?
  • In my experience yes, I've found ZDBSP to do a generally better job and it deals with more of the id Tech 1 map hacks in a predictable manner.
